Tip On Good People

In the brief history of this tipping competition nobody has got all four results correct for the round before. In the last round no fewer that three of us did so, and another four of us got a very respectable three from four. So congratulations, and especially to Peter, who on his debut has demonstrated he's going to be a dangerous contender.

As a block unfortunately the Roar supporters are doing even worse than their team. Significance? Food for thought? Um... dunno really.

I'm not going to put my tips in concrete yet as I want to put some more thought into it, but this post opens the tipping for Round 7, the conclusion of the first Robin of A-League Version 3.

So good luck everyone. And to the Ineffable Infinite, may the games be entertaining, fair and free of serious injury.

Oh yeah... one more thing Madame Infinite. MAY THE ROAR WIN A BLOODY GAME, ok?

I think I might have done a bit better last week, so here's hoping it continues.

Roar 3 Wellington 0
It's a simple equation for the Roar this week - win at home. With some team changes and an injection of new blood, an opposition who've lost their key playmaker and a real sense of urgency, I think they can do it and do it well. No disrespect to Michael Ferrante, but I think the Phoenix will struggle without Daniel, who seems to set up most of their best moves. Felipe remains a danger, but better marking in midfield should see that off. The real question is whether Qld will continue to leak goals on the counter. Having been burned by that tactic twice in a row, I expect a more controlled approach from Farina to this game.

Sydney 0 Melbourne 2
Both these teams are starting to find their feet - even if it means both are "winning ugly". Sydney still look like a bit of a damp squib up front, relying heavily on moments of Juninho magic to pull them through. Archie Thompson on the other hand is growing in confidence, and that spells real danger for the boys in sky blue.

Mariners 1 Jets 1
With a lot of local pride at stake, this should be a real dogfight. CCM's defence was exposed last week by Adelaide, and I suspect GVE will adopt similar tactics. But like the Roar, the Jets have a habit of letting one in at the worst possible moment.

Perth 1 Adelaide 2
The Reds have been hot-and-cold this season; but Perth have been positively glacial. Back at home, they're a good chance of scoring, but I can't see them holding out Adelaide over the full 90.

Best of luck to all teams and tipsters.

Just for the public recored, the following tips were received by email:

Eamonn:

"Roar to win 2-1
Jets to win 2-1
Sydney to win 2-1
Perth to draw 2-2

Ref to protect Juninho... pleassssse for the good of the comp.
Zullo to play for the Roar..then the Roar will score

Farina MUST play Zullo... any fool knows that.

...and then the Roar will win."

Cecilia:

"Wellington to beat the glorious Roar (they can score, you can't score at home) 2-0.

Melbourne are going to beat Sydney 2-1.

Mariners to get back on track: 3-0 over the Jets.

Adelaide to struggle but get a 1-0 win away over Glory."

John, Jeccy and Peter have missed the first game of this round, and I haven't received tips from them.

Eamonn has had trouble posting to the blog for some reason, so if anyone else has also, please let me know by email.

Woops, remembered last night that I forgot to put in some tips ;) Wouldn't have had that one right anyway. But I must say, it was a great match though - really fantastic stuff from the two young kids. Putting aside club allegiances, it is very exciting for Australian football to see such quality (full)debuts.

Now, assuming it is still ok to tip the other matches, here they are :

Syd-Mel: 1-2
What can I say - I don't think I'll ever tip a Melbourne loss, but especially not this one ;)

CCM-Jets: 2-0
Still, not convinced about the Jets and I think CCM will be out for revenge.

Perth-Adelaide: 1-3
Adelaide just has it all at the moment and as long as Djite and Burns are on the pitch, they are absolutely potent. I'm afraid this is going to be another bad day in the office for Perth.

I was away all week and only came home after the glorious Roar game. Under 20's all the way. If they can get their match fitness up they will be playing 90 minutes every game. Have our prayers been answered?

Yep, hoping my last three match tips will count, even though I have no idea what is happening in the League as I've been away from the internet for so long.

Melbourne 3 Sydney 1
CCM 2 Jets 1
Perth 1 Adelaide 2

I'm so sorry Cecilia. Fixed. I'm sure I'll make a mistake again, so please just tell me and I'll fix it. I hope people are as quick to tell me when the mistake's in their favour. :)
