Round 12 Divination
Tipping is open for Round 12.
Jacob's Indoor team had a spare last weekend.
Last night the Red Eye Pirates, my futsal team, with two out injured and several of us (including me) sick, went down 5:4 to the Communards. It was a fun game, but afterwards someone said we were "unlucky" (especially as we were up 3:1 at half time). I had to retort, "No we weren't, we didn't defend and they did." You just can't keep two (of four outfielders) up front in futsal when the opposition has the ball. And when it's the 'girl's turn' (in this mixed comp when a bloke scores the next goal has to be from a girl), there's no excuse for not keeping the two girls (in this case) well covered. This is the goal keepers perspective of course, and I was pretty slow myself last night, but this is what we need to talk about in my view.
Ironically it's because the Communards haven't been as good as us so far that they have great defensive habits and although we were constantly in their area pummeling the goalmouth, we were generally competing against at least two defenders as well as their goalie, whereas each time I faced a breakaway striker alone. Great goals though from Will, Craig and Imogen, and good friendly fun all round.
To the ineffable infinite, may the games this week be extraordinary to watch, fair, well adjudicated and free of serious injuries, as well as being fun for all concerned.

I know a lot of us are hoping that Perth get the 'dead cat bounce' after sacking Ron Smith, but I can't see it happening. Hopefully new coach David Mitchell has put everyone on notice that contracts are on the line from here on in. Even so, it's hard to see the Jets letting this one slip.
Mariners 1 Reds 1
Which Adelaide team will turn up for this one? The one that tore apart the Phoenix, or the one that was outclassed by the Roar? Are the Coast boys just having a bad trot, or are they on the downhill slide? Either way, it looks like being a hard-fought affair; which is why I'm going for a draw.
Victory 1 Sydney 2
The 'big one' at the Dome featuring two misfiring teams. SFC however have got their act together in recent weeks and will be hard to beat. Melbourne can't seem to by a win at the moment, but in front of a parochial home crowd, could well lift.
Roar 2 Phoenix 0
The Wellington boys scored their first win in ages against Perth, which should be a tonic for them. Perth - Brisbane is a long road trip though, and it wouldn't surprise me if they're a bit heavy in the legs. If the Roar have been scoring relatively freely at home lately (mind you, they've had a lot of away games), and if the defence plays half as well as they did against Adelaide, that should be enough to see them through this one.
Here are my tips for the weekend.
Newcastle 2 Perth 0
Central Coast 2 Adelaide 2
Melbourne 2 Sydney 0
(keeping the unbeaten home record against Sydney!)
Roar 2 Wellington 1
Newcastle 2 Perth 1
CCM 2 Adelaide 1
Melbourne 2 Sydney 2
Roar 3 Wellington 1
Just in time I hope (as does Jeccy), but it hasn't been working. This is about the third time we've tried to tip.
Newcastle 2 Perth 1
Central Coast 3 Adelaide 1
Melbourne 1 Sydney 1
Roar 2 Wellington 1
I should tip Wellington, it worked well last week!
I may be third last, but I was the week's best performer! :) Hahaha... don't consider it as a late run for a top four finish though, I'd need more than 9 rounds for that!
